system of seals and valves

Seals and Valves

A pressure washer relies on a system of seals and valves to control and direct the flow of water from the inlet to the pump, then to the outlet and the cleaning nozzle. When the water seals are in good condition, they provide a strong barrier that prevents water from leaking into the oil chamber of the pump.

However, as the water seals wear out – due to general wear and tear, aging, corrosion, or improper maintenance – they can start creating small gaps or cracks. When this happens, water can start to seep through these gaps and mix with the oil in the oil chamber. This can lead to water contamination in the oil, which can further degrade the pump's performance.

Pump oil must remain pure and free from contaminants to lubricate the moving parts effectively. Once water enters the oil chamber, it reduces the oil's lubricating properties, leading to increased friction, overheating, and potentially, serious damage to the pump mechanism. Hence, it's advised to regularly inspect and replace the water seals when necessary to ensure the pressure washer's optimal performance.
